Book Review - The Secret Diamond Sisters

Book Title: The Secret Diamond Sisters
Author: Michelle Madow
Recommended Age: 15 years old and up (Some profanity, heavy romance, and alcohol)
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

The Secret Diamond Sisters was a good book, but I give it mixed reviews. Here's a summary so you know what it's all about before I start the review.

The Secret Diamond Sisters centers around three sisters, Savannah-15, Courtney-16, and Peyton-17. The three sisters grew up not knowing their father and not quite catching a break. But it looks like their luck is about to change when they find out the secret identity of their long-lost dad—he is a billionaire Las Vegas hotel owner who wants them to come live in a gorgeous penthouse hotel suite. Suddenly, the Strip's most exclusive clubs are all-access, and with an unlimited credit card each, it should be easier than ever to fit in. But in a town full of secrets and illusion, fitting in is nothing compared to finding out the truth about their past.

The problem with this book was that the characters were somewhat unlikeable. They made some bad or stupid decisions and that really made me dislike them, but it seems like this is the author's intention. I believe she made them unlikable so that in the next book, she could totally change your opinions of them. In a little endnote in the book, she wrote "I hope you end up feeling completely different about certain characters by the end of Diamonds in the Rough than you did at the end of The Secret Diamond Sisters." That leads me to believe that she will be making some major changes to how that characters act. The reason I didn't like this book even though I knew what the author was trying to do, was because it was just a huge backstory for the next book. Don't get me wrong, it was a drama-filled, enjoyable backstory, but I feel like I could probably have read the next book without reading the first one.

The Secret Diamond Sisters is a good book and overall I enjoyed it.  If you choose to read it, then I suggest you try to overlook the characters' actions.  Just go with the flow and wait for the second book.

Check this one out.

Book Review- Coin Heist

Book Title: Coin Heist
Author: Elisa Ludwig
Age Recommended: YA, 13 years old and up. (Some profanity, Light romance)
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Recently, I read Coin Heist by Elisa Ludwig- an amazing author and good friend of mine. I really enjoyed the book and thought I could write a review about it. Here's a short summary of it...

This book centers around four kids who have totally different personalities. You have Alice, the nerd, Jason, the slacker, Benny, the athlete, and Dakota, the perfect student. When Jason's dad takes $50 million of the school's endowment, Dakota is forced to end all after school activities, which leaves her with many unsatisfied students. The four then team up to steal money from the U.S. Mint to replace the school's funds. What first starts as a joke, becomes more serious and they begin planning to make an extra batch of mistake coins. But just as they start to get their plan going, they are faced with a problem that stands in the way of getting the school's money back.

Coin Heist was a great book. I really loved reading it. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I seriously couldn't put it down. I think this book is great for boys and girls over the age of 13. It had a great mixture of action and romance which I thought made the book so much better.

In conclusion, I loved this book and I hope you will too!

Don't let it collect dust on the shelves, check it out sometime soon!

Book Review - Tunnels

Book Title: Tunnels
Author: Roderick Gordon
Age Recommended: 5th grade and up.
Rating: 1 out of 5 stars

Tunnels is a book I read awhile back and I just didn't like it. Read the short summary and continue on to my review to see why.

Will Burrows has little in common with his family except for a passion for digging which he shares with his father. When his father disappears down an unknown tunnel, Will decides to investigate with his friend. Soon they find themselves deep underground, where they unearth a terrifying secret - a secret which may cost them their lives.

Why didn't I like Tunnels? When I picked Tunnels to read, I was actually pretty excited to start it. I thought it would be a good book to read and it had a bit of a challenging plot. As a smart kid, I was always up for a challenge so I picked Tunnels. I started to read it and it started out really slow. Since it was an action adventure book, I just assumed that it would get a little more faced paced, but it didn't. As I kept reading, slowing forging on, it got worse and worse! I soon found myself skipping pages trying to just get to the end, but eventually I just gave up. It was so slow and there were a few interesting parts where Will went into the tunnels, but that was it. I didn't end up finishing this book, but I got about 3/4 of the way through before I put it down.

I can't recommend this book to my readers. I hope this review helps you on whether or not to read the book.

Leave this book on the shelf for while, it can wait...

Book Review: Oh My Goth

Book Title: Oh My Goth
Author: Gena Showalter
Age Recommended: YA, 7th grade, 13+ (Some profanity, Light romance)
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Oh My Goth by Gena Showalter is definitely a good read! I read this book about a week ago and I couldn't put it down. Ok, so here's the jist of it:

Jade is a nonconformist goth who values individuality. She has a group of Goth friends who think the same way. They are pretty much the outcasts of high school. Jade's attitude is getting to be a problem, though. Her smart mouth lands her in the principal's office where she meets Clarik, the new kid. The principal comes up with a good solution to the problem...Jade is sent to a "field trip" with her arch-nemesis, Mercedes- a popular girl-, to a remote location. She is strapped down and put into an alternate universe where she is actually popular and Mercedes is one of the freaks. They realize that they have to work together to get out of the alternate universe, but they are unwilling. Meanwhile, the new guy in school is up to something that Jade just can't figure out... Will they get out? Or will Jade be stuck in an alternate universe forever?

So, that's pretty much what the book's about. Oh My Goth, is a really good book. I enjoyed it and could really connect with the main character, Jade. I also liked Jade's view on things. She really made me think twice about trying to be like the popular people in school. Her attitude really brought a funny spin to the book. Her comebacks were perfect and it had me laughing out loud the whole time. However, the book had some heartfelt moments that added a lot to the depth of the story.

So all in all, I thought this was a great book and I recommend it for you to read.

So check this book out,

Locked in The Library...

Some people wouldn't like being locked in a library...but I would! Hi! My name is Kara and I love to read! I thought that I would share some of my reading insights. I can tell you what books to read and what books not to! Some of my other hobbies include singing, writing, drawing, and playing piano.

I started to read in 2nd grade when my friend Jenny got me hooked on a series called Warriors (awesome series by the way). I couldn't put it down and I ended up reading every night. My teacher, Mrs. Frantz, encouraged reading and writing and it pretty much snowballed from there. Every night I would go home, do my homework, read, eat dinner, read, and sleep. Reading was pretty much built into my schedule. So now, 6 years later, I am still a reading addict, but I struggle with the problem of finding good books. Often, I find a book that seems good, but is actually really bad or boring. I created this site to save you from that boring book time and time again. I hope you enjoy!

Still Locked in The Library,

~Kara♥♪
